What are chevrons and what difference does it make?
Chevrons can be termed as the V shaped facets that are cut in the square shaped diamond to augment the scintillating effect. The number of chevrons can be varied in the loose natural square diamonds according to the preference. The shimmering aura in diamond can be multiplied in princess diamonds by including the number of chevron facets in it. In princess cut diamonds, the scope of modification lies with the increase or decrease in the number of facets. By introducing extra chevrons, the number of facets on the pavilion increases exponentially and this gives the incoming light more surfaces to be reflected upon. When we look at a diamond from the top view, the diamond with fewer chevrons tend to have larger looking facets and displays slower light scintillation. By adding more chevrons, individual surfaces become smaller and scintillation of light becomes more rapid. Basically, for a smaller size of diamond, say 0.50 carat weight, two chevrons is enough whereas, a 2 or 3 carat princess diamond will look scintillating with 4 or 5 chevrons cut.
Princess diamonds can be slightly rectangular or squarish in shape, and the length to width ratio truly influences the shape of the natural GIA certified princess cut diamonds. When the length to width ratio of princess cut diamonds is less than 1.5 or nearly 1.5, the princess shaped diamond appears square in shape. With the further variation in length to width ratio, the shape gradually changes to rectangular in nature. Please provide Image Link or Choose File
